The English and Russian elite discovered Cap d' Antibes and built luxurious residences there. In 1880, the current site of Juan les Pins was discovered by the duke of Albany, son of Queen Victoria. It is understandable why. At that time, Juan les Pins was a forest of pines bordered of idyllic sand beaches. After all, Juan les Pins literary translates into Juan the Pines. The glorious days for Cap d' Antibes started in the 1920's, when the Americans brought a certain life style made of relaxation, sun bathing and jazz to Antibes. Success, attraction and love was immediate. All European jazz loving or jet set youth in search for recreation as well as most famous of the American in crowd like Frank Jay Gould, Jelda, Scott Fitzgerald and Douglas Fairbanks, were accustomed to going to Antibes. It was the beginning of some interesting and mad years. After the Second World war, the exuberant atmosphere of Antibes and Juan les Pins took off again. It became the European Orleans News. The city does not cease growing after the First World War, but remains less urbanized than of other parts of the Mediterranean coast. The fact that Cap d' Antibes Juan les Pins remained less urbanised and kept its charm, makes it very much appreciated by artists like Prévert, Audiberti, Greene, Picasso and Monet, who find in the old stones of the castle a new source of inspiration.The commune of Cap d' Antibes Juan Les Pins is second largest city of the department by its population. Cap d' Antibes Juans les Pins falls under the littoral agglomeration of the Alpes Maritimes. The territory of Cap d' Antibes has a surface of 2648 hectares. Cap d' Antibes is located between Nice and Cannes, about 15 kilometres from the international airport of Nice Riviera. Antibes Juan les Pins has one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes of France, which extends on almost 25 kilometres. Integral part of Antibes Juan les Pins is the well known technological park of Sophia-Antipolis.
